What is changing
The application process will move online. Foreign nationals will be able to submit the required information and documents through permit.am, receive notices about additions or corrections, and follow the progress of the procedure.
The purpose of the digital process is to make applications more accessible, predictable and trackable. According to the information provided, the decision period is up to 30 days in the relevant cases.
Who should pay particular attention
The change is relevant to foreign employees, founders, investors, family members and others planning a long-term stay in Armenia. Particular care is needed where the residence ground is connected with entrepreneurial activity.
- For grounds connected with participation in a legal entity, shares or other securities, an investment of at least AMD 2 million or proof of assets of equivalent value may be required.
- For a sole proprietor, the requirements may include at least AMD 1 million on bank accounts or documented turnover of at least AMD 1 million during the 60 days preceding the application.
Transitional rules
The transitional rules may apply to persons whose lawful stay expired between 15 July and 31 October 2026, where the legal ground for obtaining residence status arose before 1 November.
In such cases, the application is planned to be submitted through permit.am between 1 November and 31 December 2026. Before filing, the person’s lawful stay, document validity and any case-specific exceptions should be checked.
What to prepare in advance
- A valid passport and personal details exactly matching the identity documents.
- Documents proving the residence ground, their translations and, where required, legalisation or apostille requirements.
- For an entrepreneurial ground, company, participation, investment, bank-funds or turnover documents.
- Complete and legible electronic copies for uploading to the platform.
