Grounds for residence
Residence status is commonly granted for employment, study, family reunification, entrepreneurial activity or a family connection with an Armenian citizen. Permanent or special status may be available in specific cases when statutory conditions are met.
Temporary and permanent status
Temporary status is issued for a limited period and may be extended while the ground remains valid. Permanent status is intended for applicants with a stronger, longer-term connection to Armenia and requires additional evidence. The purpose and expected duration of stay should be assessed before filing.
Documents and procedure
The package usually includes a passport, photograph, application, proof of the residence ground, address details and proof of payment of the state fee. Foreign documents may require an apostille or consular legalisation and a certified Armenian translation. Applications are filed with the Migration and Citizenship Service; timing depends on the status and completeness of the file.
For businesses and employers
When engaging a foreign specialist or founder, the company should review the work basis, corporate documents, employment agreement, address and related requirements in advance. A residence card does not replace a work permit or proper tax compliance.
Citizenship as a later stage
Residence status does not automatically create a right to citizenship. A citizenship application is assessed separately, including residence, language, constitutional knowledge and other statutory requirements.
